Villager Shop System

The Villager Shop System was a concept I created for Minecraft events, aimed at improving block palette access for players through villager trades. MagicGum events and CivNet adopted the system, allowing players to exchange resources creatively. Other creators, such as Ish and his State 2.7 event have also adopted the approach to block palette extension.

Skills Involved

System Design:
Originated the concept of expanding block palettes through villager trades to improve fairness and creativity.
Game Balancing:
Created and maintained a balancing system using a separate tracking spreadsheet, ensuring that villager trade values and gameplay mechanics remained fair and engaging
Technical Support:
Used MCStacker, configs, and Java edits to prototype shop functions and balance mechanics.

Impact

Enhanced Creativity:
The shop system expanded building possibilities, providing players with a broader selection of materials, resulting in more vibrant, creative builds.
Community Adoption:
The "block pallete extension" concept became widely used across different events, improving the overall player experience.
Event Visibility:
The enhanced builds contributed to videos that would showcase them. Inspired design practices still used in later event iterations.

Ish State - Event Supervisor & Act Lead

As an Event Supervisor and Act Lead for Ish State, I was responsible for overseeing event staff, ensuring proper lore organization, ticketing, and player support for large-scale Minecraft events with 1000+ players.I was also the primary "lore keeper" for a specified region, which contributed to production videos that reached 30 million views. Outside of event hours, I managed player support tickets and collaborated with event leaders to facilitate seamless communication with production teams. As an Act Lead, I coordinated and directed players to bring scripted scenes to life within Minecraft, ensuring every detail was executed according to plan.

Leadership & Team Coordination (Act Lead):
Directed players for in-game scenes, coordinated prop items, and ensured each actor understood their role to re-create scenes accurately.

Impact

Enhanced Player Experience:
Ensured a smooth, organized event environment, which directly contributed to positive player feedback and engagement.
Successful Production:
My role as the primary lore keeper and staff supervisor helped produce events that resulted in the most recent video averaging 30 million views on YouTube, showcasing the high-quality, engaging content we created.
Event Efficiency:
By managing technical support, ticketing, and moderation, I helped improve event workflow, allowing for a more efficient and enjoyable experience for both staff and players.
Creative Direction:
As an Act Lead, I played a direct role in creating memorable scenes, contributing to the overall storytelling and immersive experience of the event.

MagicGum/CivBox - Event Staff & Developer

I developed and implemented my Villager Shop System directly into MagicGum’s server, where I had the creative freedom to design custom villager shops and dynamics for each region in large-scale events. From resource gathering challenges to unique gear sets, the system expanded the block palette and added an engaging layer to the events. In collaboration with the most recent event, I worked with resource packs to create an in-game currency system, allowing players to exchange "dollars" for items and resources without needing any plugins. A similar concept was also carried over to CivBox for fast-paced game modes, where I also worked on balancing the game mechanics by configuring datapacks.

Skills Involved

Villager Shop System Design:
Developed custom villager shop mechanics to allow for expansive block palettes and dynamic item exchanges in event regions.
Game Mode Balancing:
Configured and balanced datapacks to ensure fair and engaging gameplay, adjusting for speed and difficulty in fast-paced game modes.
Resource Pack Integration:
Worked with resource packs to create an in-game currency system (“dollars”) for players to spend and exchange for items, enhancing gameplay immersion.
Data Pack Integration:
Worked with data packs to create a balanced fishing system that would enable balanced gameplay for CivBox.
Event Dynamics & Customization:
Customized event mechanics, including resource gathering challenges and gear sets, to fit specific event themes and increase player engagement.
Technical Configuration:
Edited and configured Minecraft datapacks to support event mechanics and ensure smooth gameplay, focusing on balancing and gameplay pacing.

Impact

Expanded Creative Mechanics:
The introduction of custom villager shops and dynamic trade mechanics enhanced the event’s creative possibilities and player interaction, making the gameplay more engaging.
Increased Player Engagement:
By integrating in-game currency and complex resource systems, I helped create a more immersive experience that encouraged collaboration and strategy.
Game Mode Optimization:
My balancing work ensured that fast-paced game modes and events remained competitive and fun, maintaining player interest across multiple event iterations.
Widespread Adoption:
The Villager Shop System was widely used in MagicGum’s events and CivBox, improving gameplay across both platforms and contributing to a more enjoyable experience for all players.
